Hi *{{Informal Name}}*,
I hope you are doing well! My family and I went on a day trip to Silver Dollar City on Saturday to see some long time friends that moved away a year ago. I thought the day was doomed by 7:30 a.m. when my youngest got car sick. I was cleaning up the restroom floor of a gas station before I had finished my morning coffee. Travelling with kids is always an adventure!
One would assume that roller coasters would be the last thing a kid would want to do two hours later, but you have to know my kid. This eight year old adventure seeker was on every ride she could find. It was like the gas station event never happened. Oh, to be young! I even have to admit that she has exceeded my bravery on roller coasters, which has been a source of pride over the years. At one point on The Powder Keg I was clutching on to the side of our seat screaming while she calmly said, "Mom, you may want to close your eyes for the next part." I've clearly lost my edge.
The best part of the day was seeing these girls, who have all lived through enough difficulty for a lifetime, reconnect like no time had passed. Their friendship was born out of the beauty that's possible when healing, love, and permanency enter your life. For two of them, their CASA volunteer helped them get to that place. Her advocacy for their best interest has had a lasting impact on their lives, far beyond what she could see. Her commitment made moments like this possible. |
