Take Awareness on the Road

Hi *{{Informal Name}}*,

We hope you are enjoying your summer and finding a good balance between work, play, and rest. Even when we do our best, life can still leave us without much margin sometimes. Maybe you wish you could be a CASA volunteer, but you just can't make the commitment right now. We understand it's a big responsibility and not everyone can make that investment. We are still glad you're here! We have several quick and easy ways that you can partner with us to serve the most vulnerable children in our community. Here is one of them!

You can help us raise awareness by putting a CASA license plate on your vehicle.

Let's get CASA on the roads and raise awareness everywhere we go! Every dollar spent on Missouri CASA Specialty License Plates is used by local programs for volunteer recruitment, awareness, staff resources, training, or program administrative costs. Each piece is important to ensure that CASA can continue to serve abused and neglected children in Missouri. You will also be entering for your chance to win an Amazon gift card!

Impact Moment

CASA, Carissa, is advocating for a child that lives in a residential facility where they have to "level up" to gain privileges. To "level up" they have to make therapeutic and behavioral progress. Over time, this allows children to move out of the facility. The child Carissa advocates for recently got signatures from all of the adults she works with and was able to "level up!" She was so proud and immediately wanted to call Carissa to celebrate. Carissa shared this great news with the family support team. She has built a strong relationship with the child she serves and has become a significant adult in her life.  Carissa is also doing a terrific job helping the team see the positives going on in the child's life. This is the positive impact CASA volunteers have in a child's life when they keep showing up and cheering them on. CASA volunteers are there to remind children they are cared for in their struggles, and celebrated in their victories. Thank you for showing up, Carissa!

Board of Directors Update!

We truly have an incredible Board of Directors. They give so much of their heart and time to invest in the mission of Heart of Missouri CASA. They serve in this way because they believe in what we do, and want to help us move toward our strategic goals. We value their insight, experience, support, and community connections. Thank you to all of our amazing board members!

As a new fiscal year begins, it is time for a transition in leadership. Emily Little (left) has faithfully served as our Board Chair for the last year, previous Co-Chair for 3 years, and will end her six year term on the Board in September. We are so thankful for her years of service and the contributions she has made to our organization! We will miss her presence on the Board tremendously! Thank you, Emily!

Jason Sickmeier, who has served on the Board of Directors for 3 years, and Board Secretary over the past year, will be stepping into the Board Chair position for the 2021-2022 fiscal year. Jason is an experienced Information Technology Project Manager, and is currently a Product Owner for Veteran's United. We are excited to have him step into this leadership role with his unique experience and expertise. He is passionate and engaged with our mission at CASA, always willing to be hands on when we need support from the Board. Thank you, Jason, for taking on this important role!

Megan Steen (right), Director of Outpatient Services at Burrell Behavioral Health here in Columbia, will be serving as our Vice Chair for the 2021-2022 fiscal year. She has been on the Board for almost 3 years and we feel so grateful to have Megan stepping into a leadership position. She has a social worker heart with a business mind, and giving back to the community is one of her greatest priorities. Thank you, Megan, for choosing to serve our community's most vulnerable children through CASA!
