Youth Mental Health First Aid

April 30, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.  I have attached a flyer explaining the program and it also has the link to RSVP (https://goo.gl/forms/aUeDaldghPD4WsT23).  It is on Monday, April 30th from 8am-4pm at the North Callaway High School Media Center.  Lunch will be provided.  Please feel free to share this opportunity with any community member, clergy, youth leaders, 4-H Leaders, coaches or anyone else you feel would benefit from this type of training that work with or have a child.  If you have any questions please feel free to email me or call me at 573-386-3306.
