Bruce D. Perry, MD, PhD, is an expert on children’s mental health and the neurosciences. He has served as a consultant and expert witness on many high-profile incidents and is the co-author of “The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog,” a best-selling book based on his work with maltreated children. Dr. Perry will deliver a free speech that is open to public from 2-4:30 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2018, at Rock Bridge High School’s Performing Arts Center.
The development of a young child is profoundly influenced by experiences — good and bad — that shape the organization of the brain and ultimately impact emotional, social, cognitive and physiological functioning. Trauma, violence and neglect are pervasive problems in our culture. This presentation will address the development of six of core strengths that can help promote health and decrease risk for a host of emotional, social, behavioral and cognitive problems. By cultivating the core strengths — attachment, self-regulation, affiliation, awareness, tolerance and respect — in our students, we can prevent them from becoming violent and offer them an antidote to the chaos and violence to which they’re exposed.
This seminar will be valuable for parents, teachers, school counselors and anyone else who interacts with children. Admission will be limited to the first 450 people who register. You may register at https://events.muhealth.org/events/bruce-perry-speech
