Event: Child Custody and Advocate Response

Child Custody and Advocate Response is an interactive training for service providers in advocacy organizations. This training will focus on child custody issues and the best ways to advocate for survivors of abuse in child custody disputes. Advocates will learn about the practical application of child custody laws in domestic violence cases; how to assist survivors when interacting with attorneys, judges and Guardians ad Litem; and how to navigate through the judicial process.
This training will include:
•Child custody laws,
•A custody evaluation tool to help your clients prepare for court,
•Working with the other players (attorneys, judges, Children’s Division, court clerks, and police),
•Clients who represent themselves,
•Interstate custody issues,
•The related actions of: Family Access Motions, contempt motions, modifications; and
•Working with a variety of clients, including people who have disabilities, are deaf or hard of hearing, are blind, have limited English proficiency and/or are noncitizens.

From Highway 54, take the Ellis/Southwest Boulevard exit. Go East on Ellis Boulevard, then turn left on Christy Drive. From Christy Drive, turn right on Oscar Drive. Oscar Drive is north of the large black building. The MCADSV Training Center building is at the bottom of the hill on the left. Turn left on Aaron Court.
Trainings are open to employees, volunteers and board members of MCADSV member programs, MCADSV individual members, VOCA grantees, and non-members. Registration will be limited to 40 participants.
This training is free as a benefit of membership of MCADSV. Members may register online at www.mocadsv.org. All others, please register by phone at (573) 634-4161. The training fee for non-members is $45 per training day ($90 for two-day trainings).
Requests to cancel training registrations must be submitted by noon of the day(s) prior to each scheduled training date. A $25 failure-to-cancel fee per training day ($50 for two-day trainings) is assessed to individuals or member programs for participants that do not cancel their registration by the deadline.
Lunch and snacks are provided each day. A $5 contribution is requested for lunch each day.
